Chajney at the month1 y meeting of he Levin Borough Council last night. On the snggesfipn pf the Mayor, Mr. H. B. ^Burdekin, the council expresse.d its regret at the resignations and placed on record its appreciatipn of the excellent seryjc.e they had rendered during their terms as councillors. Crs. W. Telford and R. A, Frederikson aiso paid tribute'to the work, of crs, Gardiner and Chainey. It was mentioned that nominations to flH the vacancies elosed at noon on Friday and an electio'p was 'j'o be held on April 27. "., . . . * * * During a discussion "of borough work, Cr. Frederikson said he feit ,the couneii should have some say in, the priority given to the projects which it gave authority for. To this end he moved that a lisjfc of all works authorised be tabled at each meeting, showing what works had been earrie'd out and what remained to be completed. It was seeonded by Cr. A. 3. H- Allen and carried. * * * An application fpr the use pf ;the Levin Park Dpmain fpr the 1949 season from the Horowhenua Rugby Union was granted at a rental of 10 per eent. of its gross gate takings, with the proviso that on wet days only one game should be played there. Lycette, said that at Playford Park motor camp wash tubs had' been instajled, a soakage pit dug and drainage put in to - take the waste water from the . shower roorri and wash-house. Lycette, advising that he would • have the cricket pitch fenced off L to proteet it. ^ * Permission to stage a concert in , the Regent Theatre on the evening vof Anzac Day, admissipn to be by ■ silver coin collection and any prol fits to be donated to the Levin R.S.A,, was sought by the Levin iMunieip.al Band. The council was asked if the theatre could be made available at a minimum rental. Permission was granted, the programme tp be submitte'd to the town clerk for approval. It was pointed out that the rental question was a matter for the cp'mpany leasing the theatre. * * * ! Letters from .Messrs. Q. J. Davis L and I.
