Gaol For Man Who Hit Policeman On Jaw
WELLINGTON, April 1. "Accused told the coustable that he had rio right to be there, arid then hit him on tiie jaw," said Sub-lnspector W. ■T. K..Brown, when prosecuting Kenneth Edward Austin, labourer, aged 29, in the Magistrate's Court on a charge of assault. The constable had gone to the Mansions Hotel to make some inquiries, Inspector Brown said and was accosted by accused who hit him on the jaw. "We take a very serious view of this matter," said the inspector. "We cannot have our constables knocked about in this mariner. " hlr. A. A. McLachlan, S.M., imposed a sentence of three months' imprisonment.
