WELLINGTON,- April 1. The Parliamentafy Lab'Our Parfy meeting in cancus congratulated Mr. Frasef today on eompleting nine years of service as Prime Minister. It wras on April 1, 1940, that Mr. FraSer acedpted the appointment. Speaking to the Parliameiitary prrisS gallerv, Mr. Fraser said today that it had been a strenuous nine yearS. The war had intervened and iri ridditio h a great deaJ of legislation of iriiporttirice to the wellbeing of the people of the Domiriion had berin broughf down. D'tiring his' term, in addition to prosecutirigf fhe war effort, New Zealand had participated in discussions on questions ot international importance. New Zefalhriders of both raees had made great' sacrifiees in the war, and 10,000 of the cbiintry's finest young men had laid doWrn their lives so that their countrymen inight iive in freedom and retaifii prdgressive democraey. The fact thaf their Sdcriftce had eriabled the retention of the heritage of freedom and democraey made it all fhe more important that that heritage shotild be saffeguaffled today against its avowed enenjigs,^ both inside and outside.
