WELLINGTON, April ]. A new type of speed chec-king device ! known as the microwave speed indicator accurately recording speeds ot: vehicles while tliey are within rangc of the machine will be put in opferation fihortly by the Transport Department. Announcing this, the Minister Oi Traiisport (Mr Hackett) said very real damage was being done to road surfaces and subgrades by heavy vehicles driven at speed, and he therefore directed the Transport Department to institute a more rigid check on Speeds.
