1 Received Friday, 11.55 a.m. LONDON, March 31. The instigator of the Syrian coup d'etat, Coionel Husni zaim, told Reuter's Damaseus correspondent uhat the Rresideut, Shukri Bey Ei Ktnvatli, and the Prime Mini&ter, Khaled El A2im, who were i3tnprisoned yesterday after the miiitary uiprising, would he "hanished from Sj'rian political life." Diplomatic sources "said it was uot known if charges would be made against the President and Premier, who are now the only Government icaders in custoidy. The correspondent added that it s expected that the Syrian Parliament would soon be dissolved and elections held. Oolonel Zaim is believed to favour a coalition. The British tlnited1 Presg correspondent says that Kuwatli, who has been President for six years, is defying Coloiiel Zaim and has re~ fused to resign. The country is at least outwardly back to normal. Steel helmeted soldiers are .still stationed at strategic points ih the capital, but the curfev; has been .ifted, traffic is ruhning normally and there is no evidehce of public discontent.
