Use Of New Electric Tote At Levin Races
The new portable eiectric totalisator, which has proved siich a boon to the bountry race meetings ■where it has been used,( will be ih operation for the first time localiy ; when the Levin club ' holds • its autumn fixture on Saturday, April v 9. . - - • , : The machine has heen purchased as a result of the initiative of the Rangitikei, Masterton, - Foxton, Levin, Woodville', Napier Park and 'Hastings clubs, which have formed a company with a capital of approximately £17,500. M addition ,to the outlay on the machine, the clubs have faced heavy initial exum^e in fitting their totalisator "ihouses to aGcomhiodate it. Already ucner c Ubs are showing keen interest in the machine. With the old manual • machines the time taken in balancing investments usuahy amounts to ten or more minutes each time, the delays proving tiresome to racegoers, jocxeys and horses, but the portable can be balanced in one or two •minutes. This speedier balancing gives punters an extra hour in which to lodge their investments, and _ the result is seen in sharply rising , totalisator figures. ! At Woodville and Bulls, where the machine has already been used, fnore money was handled and, ! despite numerous division races, the programihes were run off strictly to time.
