Scottish Society Would Like Its Own Hall
A new hall for its own purposes and those of its pipe . band were discussed at. last night's annuai meetihg of the Horo whenua Scottish Society. ,'No immediate action is to be taken, but the incoming committee were directed to disCUss the' matter and report back to the firSt quarterly generai meeting. Mr. W. Swan opened the discussioh, remarking that it had been suggested to him in a letter from Mr. M. H. Boyce, of th'e Levin MiUtary Band, that the society and the band amalgamate to build a hall. ' However, he was in favour of the society taking shares in a building society and later securing a loan and building its OWil hall. He thought the society Should have taken oUt the shares when this had been suggested last year, At the time the suggestion was made, the exchange ra?te had not been lifted and the society faced a heavy account for the new uniforms, said the chairman, _Mr. J. R. Macfarlane. He was not in favour of launching such a project Until other financial mattei's had been concluded. Mr. E. V. Eames considered that a hall would be a source of ineome to the society and that the chairman's Vie'w was a short-sighte'd one.
