More infor Nation about the , Waito'hu survey district trig sta■tions which were the subject of an artiwe by Mr. W. M. Simcox in last Thursday'S issue, is given in a let ter from Mr. F. S. Simcox. Tne four trigs, which have now been blown down, were erected m 16? f when Messrs. A. W. and Morgan." Carkeek made the primary triangu- f lar survey of the Horowhenua f.or the Lands and Survey Department. Mr Simcox'S'Tetter adds. Mr. Morgan Carkeek told the writer that when the timber loads for Taungata were apportioned among the bearers, making two or three loads each, one Pow.ejful rpckoned that he cou.d cairy his load in one trip. He tied the boards together and staggering along with many rests, got nis whole poruion sllrst to the site, and so earned the iongest spell. m 'The original name of Taungata 'was Puke- toi (hill summit), and il was renamed Taumata (brow or hi 1 crest) , which was believed to 1 have been corrupted to the present Iname of Taungata."
