Coming-of-Age Celebration At Te Horo

On a recent evening the Te Horo Hall was ' filled! with ' alm'ost 200 , guests from Wellington, ^Palmerston. North, Levin and surrounding districts who had assembled at the Invitation of Mr. and Mrs. Vieto'r J. Cott'e, of Te Horo, to celebrate the coming-of-age of their.ypungn5i dau ghter , Miss ' Phyllis ' Cbttle.' The hall was tastefully deco'rated' 1 and the evening was spent in dancmg to music supplied by Miss Weno Tahiwi, with extras by Mr. and Mrs. H. Tews. Two novelty items caused ccnsiderable amusembnt. Mr. F. Corbett,_ of Manakau, proved a most capab e master of ■ ceremonies. After supper the toast to the guest of the evening wss proposed by Dr. J. A. Doctor, of Wellington, and was heartily responded to by ' all present. Mr. Cottle then presented his daughter with the traditional key. Miss Cottle, who wore a white lace gown over white 1 satin, with a shoulder spray of red begonias and~ maidenhair fern, xose' amfd cheers 1 .and\ thanked Dr. Doctor for his kindly' ' references, her parents for Yfiei.bwoliderful evening they had given her and all • present for the wa'y the'y had honoured . the toast and the many beautiful gifts showered up.on her. During the -- lighting ; .of .the candles on the cake, "I'm Twentyone Today" was sung, follpwed by = '.'For She's a Jolly Good Fellbw." Dancing continued untilvmidni'ght, when the singing of "Auld Lang Syne" brought a very happy evening to a close.
