Seddop said that Mr. H. A. Phillips, durihg his term as Mayor, had tdken the matter up. ' With Mr. Phillips he had met the I Manufacturers' Federatibn in Wellington. The result had been a request that , a census bf young persbns willing' tb abb'ept ertiploy'ihient ih factories b'e taken in- Levin. This had .been .done and an area of .three1 or four miles radius covered. The result had been rather disappoiutirig." He thbught, "Hbvfbver; that anothbr eifort should be made. Mr. F. Croot said he was convinced that when the building situation eased the position would be different. The lack o'f adequate drainage or sewerage had Stopped factories from being built in Levin. The representatives of a numb'er bf city firms had told him ihat after the building restrictions, had eased they would bb iookihg fdr sites in the country. He considered that |the lighter class of industry would be better for Levin. After further discussion it w.as 'decided to refer the mattbr to the committee. : , .
