Communists Evade Awkward Question
. WELLIN G-TON, Marci 24. , Communists the world over wpuld oppose to the utmost any imperialistie war directed against Russia. The New Zealand Communist Party gave, in effect, this reply today to the Dominion president of the N.Z.R.S.A. (Sir Howard Kippenberger). General Kippenberger had asked the party nationai committee to define individually their attitnde on, firstly, deelarations by Communist leaders in Finland, Beigium, Austria, Israel, Cuba and the Argentine' that Communists. would fight for a Soviet .victory in a' war; and, feecondly, their attitude' on the statement by the Australian Communist. .(Mr. Sharkey) that if Soviet troops in. pursuit of aggressors entered the Commonwealth Australian workers would. welcome them. The communist party did not give a plain yes or no answer as requested by Sir Howard Kippenberger, but forwarded ; clippings • f rom its oiiicial organ.
