Steady Demand For Beef At Westfield
AUCKLAND, March 23. Beef and lambs were penned in average numbers at the Westfield stock uiarkets. There was a steady demand for beef. with all classes selling at la-te quotations, and lambs sold readily, values being very firm. There was less \
than the average supply of sheep for which there was a ready t demand and values improved slightly over last week's sale. There was a good yarding of calves with a steady demand for good quality runners and vealers, but values generally were a littie easier. Pigs were yarded in good numbers. Quotations for all fats were very firm. Cattle, extra choice ox, sold to £2 18s per 1001b., choice and prime from £2 13s to £2 17s, ordinary from £2 8s to £2 12s, extra prime young eow and heifer to £2 13s, choice and prime from £2 9s to £2 12s, ordinary cow beef from £2 3s to £2 8s. Extra heavy prime steers brought from £22 10s to £23, heavy from £21 to £22 7s 6d, medium from £19 12s 6d to £20 7s 6d, light from £17- to £19 10s, small and unfinished from £12 5s to £16 17s 6d, extra heavy prime cows aijd heifers from £16 to £16 15s, heavy prime cows from £13 to £15 15s, medium from .£11 to £12 17s 6d, light from £9 to £10 17s 6d, small unfinished from £6 to £8 17s 6d.
