Scout Movement Extended To Rover Crew
A further step in the advancement of scouting was taken when a recent meeting of the Levin Scout Committee approved the formation in Levin of a rover erew. In scouting, rovering is considered to be the highest attainment possible to achieve. After passing through senior scouts and reaching the age of 18 years, ja scout may pass on to the rovers. Their watchword is "service," service to scouting and to the community. It is recognised by all scouting authorities that the formation of a rover crew in the district is a move for the well-being of scouting as a whole. The Levin Committee considers itself particularly fortunate in having for its Rover leaders three men of exceptional scouting experience and overseas service. However, for the operation of a Rover crew. a "den" must be procured. This need be only a 10 ft. x 12 ft. ramshackle shed or garage, ahd an appeal is made by the committee for some citizen to give the use of aceommodation which could be utilised for this purpse. ! At the meeting. the Levin representative who travelled to the Pan-Pacific Jamboree at Yarra Brae, Melbourne, Ian Wenham, told of his experienees. A report was received from the Cubmaster, Miss B. Blehkhorn, to the effeqt that three young women had offered their services as assistant cubmasters. • _«
