WELLINGTON, March 20, "Our remarks to the Federation of. Labour weie rather refined. The union has nothing for which to apologise and' will be pleased to meet the Federation exeeutive persoually and tell them verbally in a- mueh plainer way than was cont-ained in our letter what we think of them." This statement was made today by the national president of the New Zealand Waterside Workers Union (Mr. H. Barnes) and the national secretary (Mr. T, Hill), eommenting on the circular in which the nationa1 exeeutive of the Federation of Labour announced that it was not prepared to discuss any matter with the Watersiders' Union until a socalled "scurrilous communication" sent by the union to the Federation was withlrayra and 'an apology made. Messrs Hill and Barnes said it was rather strange that theirs was the oqly union in Wellington not to receive a copy of the circular sent- out by the Federation exeebtive.
