Known Nazis Settle Down In N.Z.'s Comfort
- --- 1 ■; m-: ■ That known Germans of German sympathisers, many of whom were qonfirmed Nazis who had been ifiterned during the war," and against whom deportation orders * were recommended by a special tribunal headed by a Supreme Court judge, were now living comfortably in the Dominion and receiying the same beneflts as good New Zealand citizens, was alleged by Mn E, Hamil-ton-Mitchell, of the Dominion executive committee of the N.Z.R.S.A,, when speaking in Levin on Wednesday night. Repeated • representations had been made to the Government for the carrying out- of the deportation orders recommended, but without result, until recently the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, had frankly admitted that it was probabiy tso" late now to take action. The problem was, said Mr. Hamilton-Mitcheli, that they had been released by the Government, in its wisdom, after the war, and many had now se.ttled down and marfied good New Zealand girls, and had good New Zealand children. If the Gvernment acted now it might mean the separation of families. The R.S-A- was now faced with the problem of whqther, in the light of these facts, it should still continue to press for their deportation. This was one of the subjects which would be discussed at the next conference, he added, although it seemed that the Government, like the Roman soldiers, "had finally won by delaying." , The only comfort was that they were ali known andi the police held complete dossiers on each. "At least they'Ve got' them well taped," he concluded.
