Discussion Of Steel Bill Ends Abruptly
Received Friday, 9.'25 a.m. LONDON, March 17, Amid Opposition cries of "Reichstag ' and loud Government cheers, the committee stage of the Bill to nationalisc the steel industry came to ... an abrupt end today in the Ilouse of Commons when the guillotine iell on the measure, leaving 44 amendments undiscussed. Mr. Oliver Lyttelton (Conservative), pro'testing .during the continual uproar, said: "The lack of 'ime is entirely due to the monstrous way the Government has nandled this Bill." \ He said that a total of more than' 150 Opposition amendments had not be.en discussed. The committee had talked for about 90 hours during its 36 sittings and had participated' in 104 divisions. Of the 556 amendments tabled, oxclusive of 'new clauses, about 82 were accepted and 225 amendments were subjected to l,he guillotine.
