Poroutawhao Club's j First Annual Fixture " " - i The first"mieeting of the Poroutawhao Sports Club was held on Mr. W. Winiata's property, Porou•tawhao, -on Saturday. Ideal weather attraeted a large crowd. of spectators and competitors from all parts of the district. There - were very large entries in the horse events, whi'e the Highland dancing programme drew a- big numfier of • entrants. ■ These latter were , ably judged by Mr§. Galvin, of , ; Wellington. Mr. T. Hall took oharge -of the entries and the club is indebted to him for his assistance. I Stalls did brisk business in the • able hands of the following meiii- " bers of the women's committee: — Ice creams and soft drinks: Mrs. W. Penny and assistants; produce and I jumble stalls: Mrs. A. M. Scott and assistants; afternoon tea: Mrs. iCarle; light luncheon: Mrs. S. , Lumsden. } The Strode-Penny Memorial Cup, a perpetual trophy and miniature, [was won by Mr. J. J. Procter. This 1 cup is the points prize for the horse events.' The Lady Grey Cup and miniature, donated by Mr. G. During the afternoon, Special thanks were extended to the Levin Division of the St. Jolin Ambulance Brigade, members of the Legion of Frontiersmen and to one and all who had helped to make the day so successful.
