Shannon over the weekend. Mr. D. Munro, who resided in Shannon many years ago and later lived in the Newtown area, has, with Mrs. Munro, taken up "residence in iStout Street. Mrs. S. Morrison had the misfortune to pull the ligaments in her leg while playing croquet on the local .green last' week. Acting on medical instruction, Mrs. Morrison will have to remain. in bed fo'r a few days. Her manv 'friends will
wish her a speedy rec'overy. I _ By proclamation in the latest [ issue of the Gazette, the following have been appointed as members [ of the Tokomaru Domain Board: — : Messrs. J. H. Liggins, T. M..Ryder,N. J. Whyte and J. R. Whyte. The first meeting o-f the hbard will- he held on April 26. Among the competitors at the local sports meeting last Saturday was Mr. K. Neilson, of Wanganui. Mr. and Mrs. Neilson accompanied their son and spent a pleasant afternoon renewing old aequaintances after being away from Shannon for a. number of years. At the general meeting of the Shannon Returned Services' Association on Saturday evening, a resolution was passed nominating Mr. H. B. Burdekin, of Levin, as the local branch's seleeti'on for the position of Dominion president of the R.S.A. Mr. Tasman G. Taylor was the branch's nomination for Dominion vice -president. School Jubilee Applications are still coming to hand from ex-residents desiring to attend the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Shannon School, which .are to he held during the month of June. Accommodation will present a problem, but no . doubt this will be overcome when the jubilee committee meets in the near future. The golden jubilee celebrations of the Shannon Football Olub, which are being held over the same period, have in no small way helped to swell the influx of visitors. Both the committees concerne'd are looking forward to a very successful jubilee. . R.S.A. Traimees 1 At the nionthly meeting of the Shannon branch of the Returned Services' Association, held last Saturday evening, a letter was received from the headquarters of the N.Z.R.S.A. requiring the names and addresses of men with 40 per cent. disability as trainees at the Milson Training Farm, with the view to their taking up small farms of between 10 and 50 acres. It' was pointed out that a serviceman who was handicapped by disabilities amounting tq 40 per cent. or more was eligible even if his disability was not attributable to war service. Any serviceman interested in this ■ scheme was asked to contact the iocal branch seeretary, Mr. E. J. Gunning, who would pass on all information.
