AUCKLAND, March 16. The death of a nine months old girl, Karen Patricia Mahoney, daughter of Mr. A. C. Mahoney, of Orakei, was caused by toxaemia and shock from burns a.ccidentally sustained at home as a result of the upsetting of an electric jug of hot water. This verdict was returned by the Coroner (Mr. Addisou) at the inquest. The child's mother, Elsie Emilv Mahoney, said she had prepared the girl for bed and then left her alone for a few minutes. On hearing a scream she rushed to the kitchen and found
her daughter sitting soaked through on the floor. The electric jug had overturned. She did not think tha water was boiling. Deceased, wlio could crawl but not walk, had appa.rently made her way to the kichen and tried to pll herself up by the stove and in doing so had tugged the cord oi the jug.
