Eeceived Wednesday, 8.10 p.m. LONDON, Mareli 16. Tfi.e Defence Minister- (Mr. A. V. Alexander) jumped ixp in protest in tfie Commons last niglit when Air Gommodore A. V. Harvey (Gonservative) declared during the Air Estimates' debate that some of the planners had told him that if there was ^oiug to be a •w.orld flareup it might be in July. If it missed July it might not hap'pen for five, six or seven years. Mr. Alexander: What planners? Air Commodore Harvey: Planners in. some of the serviees. Mr. Alexander: It seems most extraordinary that you get information from joint planners in the most seeret Government service. Air Commodore Harvey: Is it a seeret to say it is thought there might be a flareup? The sooner you reaiise it the better. (Opposition cheers.) Mr. Alexander: It is almost unpardonable for you to say in publie what a planning offieer has said so that it is regaled to the publie and possibie enemies. Later in replying to the debate Mr. de Freitas, Under-Secretary for Air, said: "June, July or midsummer is a date entirely without signifieance to our planners, and so far as we know ,to anyone else's planners. We seek no war at all and we do not believe anything like that is inevitable. ' '
