Sail-plane Covers 300 Towing Miles

AUCKLAND, March 14. The sail-plane enthusiast from Australia, Mr. A. Hardinge, covered 30(1 towing miles at the week-end. On Saturday he was towed from Mangere to Waharoa, near Matamata, behind a Tiger Moth flown by an Auckland Aero Club pilot (Mr. F. McKeevers). There he gave a demonstration to mernbers of the Piako Aero Club. HOURS A flight of 3 hours 38 minutes was made by Mr. Hardinge within a radius of six miles of Mangere aerodrome today. This was the first time a sailplane has flown for more than an hour in New Zealaitd. Mr.. Hardinge was towed into the air by one of the Auckland Aero Club's Tiger Moth aireraft. He was released from the tow at 1.13 p.m. and landed at 4.51 p.m. During his free fli'ght he climbed as high as 4100 feet and at times was down to 1000 feet.
