Excellent Athletics At Park Domain
With all the excitement .of elbse finishes and excellent racing, the 'comparatively large attendance at the Levin Park Domain last night "was treated to entertainment well up to the standard Of previous meetings t held this season by the Levin Combined Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club. Making.. the fir'st competi'ti,on for the La Roche Membrial Cup among junior cyclists in the half-mile event, a particularly good race ensued, S. Bonner gaining the verdict from Broadbelt and Elliott. Next Monday night will seejhe mPe contest decided, and dri the following Monday the two mile, the junior securing the most points in the three races holding the trophy for the season. Open for competition to all cyclists of the Levin club is a silver shaving mug and brush donated by Mrs. Doherty. This will be awarded to the cyclist gaining the most pointi for appearance, behaviour, condition of cycle and general performance. A similar trophy has been donated by Mr. F. Chainey for the athletes. M. Harper is the new holder of the Golden Helmet, defeating Searanckp, of Otaki, while P. Elliott wasjruccessfu1 in defeating O. Connolly for the Silver Helmet. Creating great amusement was the one lap boys' walking race, the various stewards stationed around the track having a hard job in reducing the field. The ra.ce was judged by Mr. Wally McKenzie, and L. G'allagher was the winner. The three wheeled enthusiasts were a^so out in large3 numbers, necessitating two heats.
