N.Z. Speedboat Scoops Pool In N.S.W.
Received Sunday, 7 p.m. SYDNEY, March 13. Driving his speedboat Redhead through rain in poor visibility, the New Zealander, Len Southward, broke the Australian flying mile povverboat record of 82.6 miles an hour over the ;St. George Motorboat Club's- mile course at Sans Souci on the Georges River. Southward made his record breaking run at his third attempt when his times were -84.906 and 85.06 miles an hour respectively for his run up the course and back. The record had pre viously been held by the Sydney boat Sunray II. Officials spoke highly of Mr. Southward 's performance under trying conditions. Two weeks ago he drove the Redhead to victory against the six fastest speedboats in New South Wales, to win the Australian unlimited speedboat championship and Griffith Cup. He is returning to New Zealand this week.
