Marching Team's Contest Appeal
To enable it to compete in the New Zealand championships at Wellington and to accept an invitation from the Rotorua Marching Association to attend its contest during Easter, the Levin Caledonian marching team is launching an appeal to citizens of Levin fer funds. This team has performed with outstanding success at contests this seasonf the most reeent being its annexation of the championship and champion leader award at Bulls on Saturday. The appeal is being sponsored by the Levin Junior Chamber of Commerce, which has at all times been interested in furthering the welfare of the young people of ' the town. It is felt that the appeal should be whole-heartedly supported by citizens, particularly in view ■of the team's undeniable chance of Auccess at the New Zealand contest. All the girls in the team are young, some of them still being at school, and they have been put to .consider-able expense in paying their own way to the various contests. It is,- therefore, felt that many people would willingly contribute to a fund to send these girls for Dominion competition as .some reward for the many weeks of arduous training they have undergone to bring them to their present nigh standard. The team has placed Levin's name high in marching circles. Its conduct on and off Ihe contest field has made it deservedj ly popular with other teams, and a credit to the town and coach, Mr. J . R. Macfarlane. The members of the Junlar i Chamber of Commerce will shortly c'anvass the town on, behalf of the team, and in addition donations may be left at the shops of Mr. Jrf. i Thornley, B.B.C. Grocery and-|wr. H. Hunt.— P.B.A. /
