WELLINGTON, Marcli 11. A meeting- between the national co.uncil of the Carpenters' Union and national eseeutive of the Federation of Labonr, will be held on Monday morning to consider the present dispute. This waS annotiheed tonight by Mr. K. Baxter, seeretary of the New Zealand Federation of Labonr, in the following statement : — "My executive, at a special meeting today, "gave fnrther consideration to the Carpenters' dispute. The execntive is gravely eoncerned at the trend which the dispute is taking, partie'ularly the actions of a committee styling themselves the "fction committee," whieh is usnrping the powers of the Auckland Trades Conncil, the national conncil and national execntive of the Federation of Labonr. My execntive eonsiders it is under an obligation to affiliations of the Federation of Labonr, to repndiate the conduet of the "action committee" whieh seemngly is chiefly eoncerned in involving other organisations with the apparent object of bringing about a complete stoppage of industry without the slighteSt consideration to the effleets of sueh actimi on the rank and file of trade unionists and their families. We have already requested the carpenters' organisation to hand their dispute over to the Federation of Labour. This has not been dorie to date but we hre now advised by the national seeretary of the Carpenters' Union that his national council is prepared to meet the national execntive of the Federation of Labour next Monday morning. My national executive bas agreed to meet the national council of the Carponters' Union and this meeting will take place at the Trades Hall-, Wellington, at 10 a.m. Monday next."
