Marauding Dogs Cause Sheep Losses

WELLINGTON, March 8. Vieious attaeks by marauding dogs in the Johnsonville district are almost nightly injuring and sometimes "killing valuable breeding and fat ewes. This was stated today by a stockman whc blamed pet dogs let loose for jaunts. Penned up for veterinary care by Mr. R. . S. Styles, stockmaif* for a firm of stock and staiion agents, a number of 'breeding ewes was shown a reporter as the latest evidence of worrying. In these eases the dogs had gone for sof t. spots. Two ears were not aceounted for. They had been gnawed off. Mr. Styles said the trouble had been going on for years. Many sheep had been killed and others chased into ditches where tliey were lost. Many more, because of injuries, were useless for breeding purposes.
