The pipes, which are of glazed earthenware, had previbusly been in- doubtful supply and the council was concerned at the experise inVolved in bringing them from the South Island. The Fiimmertori factory, which is ia new one, tendered its quotations to the meeting for the -vari- ' ous sizes and the quantity per month, the prices being in line with the estimates of the council's en.gineers. Tne Mayor, Mr. Burdekin, was authorised by the meeting to approach the Local Government Loans Board to ascertain if it could make funds available as soon as possible. * * * The fact that ffiotorists were careless in parking their vehicles in Oxford Street was raised by Cr. A. J. H. Allen, who stated that cars were not being kept in the bays provided, but were left overlapping thp next bay and thus, preventing other cars from using the bays. ,The council decided to refer the

matter to the district traffic inspector. -K * -K The attendant at the council's rest room in Oxford Street, Mrs. H. Feigler, tendered her resignation, stating health reasons as the cause. It was mentioned that Mrs. Feigler had oeCupied the position for many years and, in the words of the Mayor, Mr. Burdekin, she had given very loyal and spontaneous service whenever a request was put to her, and that both she and her husband were splbndid citizehs. . It was decided to accept her resignation with regret and, as a tangible appreciatibri of her servicbs, make her a grant of £25. •K -K -K Reference to the fact that the town clerk, Mr. H. L. Jenkins, had recently completed 25 years' service was made by the Mayor, Mr. Burdekin. In expressing the borough's appreciation of the work of Mr. Jenkins over the years, Mr. Burdekin also conveyed hjs persohal thanks to Mr. Jenkins for the many courtesies shown him and the help given during his period as Mayor. Other councillors also spoke in praiSe of l°ng and helpful service by Mr. Jenkins. * * M The council decided to communicate with the Ministry _ of Works enquiring as to the availability of an officer of the department for the work of preparing a town planning scheme for the borough, the terms on which such work could be done and the possible date of his availability. * ¥ * Bookings by sporting bodies for the use of the Regfent Etall were approved by the council as follows: — Mondays, boxing; Tuesdays, badminton; Wednesdays, table tennis ; Thursday s, basketbafi. It was pointed out that these days would be subject to review if the hall was required for other purposes and when the hall was redecorated it might be necessary to review applications from sports bodies whose activities were found to be detrimental to the hall. * * * Discussed in committee at the meeting were new matters arising out of the Regent Theatre renovations and a statement by the Mayor in regard to the proposed sanatorium.
