Negro Escaped Death While Coin Tossed

Received Monday, 7 p.m. NEW YORK, March 6. Three armed white men took a Negro prisoner from the gaol at the Louisiana town of Opejousas today and tossed a coin to see who would kill him. The Negro, Edward Honeyeut, aged -22. who had been held in gaol for four months on a charge of raping a married white ' woman, escaped when the coin was tossed. He dived into a river and swam to safety. Later he gave himself up to the police in another town. The sheriff said the assailajats had kidnapped Honeyeut from the third floor of a' supposedly "mob proof" gaol4 by threatening the gaoler.
