STATE LOSES OVER £2,000,000 TAXATION ANNUALLY

The illegal bookmakers, on theii own admission, h'andle nior3 than ' £21,000,000 annuaily in off-course oeotmg; a *larger amount than is invested on all legai- totalisators on racecourses. Last year the Totaiisator and Dividend' Tax yielded £2,177,236. This tax is deducted from all Totaiisator investments before dividends are declared. But no such tax is derived at present from the illegal bookmakers. The vast sum invowed goes inio their pockets and stul tney will not pay full tota.isator odds. Since off-course betting is inevitable, the issue at the Poll is simply whether it is to be conroi ed in a decent legal manner or continued to be driven underground to illegal channels. For ihe good of the country, vote "For The Proposal." (Issued by N.Z. Racing and Trotting Conferences.)
