Other Feature Races To The Grate And Demonic

i Tauloch's brilliant win in ihe New Zealand St. Leger Stakes was one of the great highlights of Saturday's racing at Trentham. Tauloch went to the front seven furlongs from home and after the * field had closed on him running to the straight he drew right away ' and won in effortless fashion from Blue Seal, Hasty Glance and Corofin. His time for the mile and three-quarters was 2.58 and it was five seconds faster than the Trentham course record established . ten years ag.o by Beaupartir. It was one seeond faster than the New Zealand record. The victory increased his stake winnings for tho spnsnn tn £12.825.

The other feature races provided , very-keen contests, the Autumn Handicap heing won hy The Grate narrowly from Lord Revel, The Thompson Handicap oy Demonic narrowly from Excellency and Voltaic, and the Railway Handicap hy False Step which just got up to beat Wild Note. The day was fine aud the course very fast. Following a perfect start and with a round to go, the order was Corofin aud Tanjeen from St. Bruno, Blue Seal, Sea Shanty, Hasty Glance and Tauloch. All were under a hold but the pace was right on at the nine wliere Tauloch had moved up to be in fifth piace. They were travelling fast at the mile, and at the seven Tauloch moved smoothly into the lead and at the six was two lengths elear of Corofin which was clear of Blue Seal follovved by St. Bruno and Hasty Glance, Tanjeen and Sea Shanty. The field closed on Tauloch running to the home tuni where Corofin appeaTed to be going as well if not better than Tauloch. However, when the Balloch colt was given his head he drew right away and won as he liked by half a dozen lengths, and the crowd was acclaiming him long before he reached the line. Blue Seal finished well for second a length in front of Hasty Glance. Corofin was fourth and St. Bruno was fifth. . AUTUMN HANDICAP, £4000; 1& miles. 3-3 THE GRATE, 8.6 (C. M.
