CRICKET LEAD CHANGES
Shannon Again Displaoe Weraroa Oentre of interest in the cricket eompetitions on Saturday was the results of the games played by the twq lead'ing teams, Shannon and Weraroa. Shannon secured an eight-point win over iCollege and Weraroa were beaten by Levin, thus giving Shannon the Jead once more. The points to date are Shannon 78, Weraroa 73. Next week Shannon wijl meet. Levin and Weraroa will play Paraparaumu. The game between Shannon and College provided a thrUing day's cricket for those who saw it. The fielding was excellent on both sides and the scoring was low, Shannon had first use of the wicket and for Ihem the game soon took a gloomy outlook when, a wicket fell on the ieyenth ball of the hrst' over without a run being made. When the ' fifth wicket fed, only 16 runs had been scored and at the conclusion ! of the innings, Shannon were all ! out for 46. Harris and McNeile (10) I were the only batsmen to reach double figures. The bowling analysis indicates the quality of the College attack. Hamilton took six wickets for nine runs and Andrews four for 15, * .1 Shannon's chances looked more ! slender when the first College wicket fell for 14 runs. However, a further three wickets were accounted for without a change in the score board and College were an out for 33. McLean made 13. Moore and Harris with five wickets for 13 runs and five for 17 respectively once again proVed their worth to the team as bowlers. Shannon's second innings returned a total score of 89. Pope and Wadsworth (22), the mtter not out, were the mainstays of the Inning'S, Andrews took five wickets for 29 runs and Hamilton four for 24. College again gave Shannon a j bad scare when thev began to make j runs half-way through ihe second innings. Lang (-26 not out) turned on a creditable performance considerlng the fact that he was fourth man in. Bad luck was probably- the downfall of College, for had Julius (26) not been run out, a different' story might Jiave been to.d. As it j is, they were all out for 69, giving Shannon the match by 33 runs over two innings, Levin Beat Weraroa Levin beat Weraroa by 48 runs to secure a five-point win. With 'first j usb of the wicxet, L'evih knocked up 99; Galloway (36) and'Hudson (34) being the top scorers. Weraroa could only muster 51 runs in reply, De Castro (18) was the only double-figure' scorer. K. Hudson took five wickets for 10 runs, Hoar two for 19 and Gadoway ,oneforl4. Eight-pointer T6 Old Boys • Old Boys defeated Otaki by six wickets over two innings and secured an. eight-point win. Otaki made 48 in their first innings and 74 in their second for a total of 122. Old Boys scores of 73 and 55 for mree toialled 128. Otaki had first use of the wicket and one of the opening batsmen, Harper, hit out strongly for a bright 28. Heatherwick, Harper's parcner, made 10. N. Sciascia capmred four wickets for 17 runs arid Barraud two for 25. 'Gardiner and Hannan each look one for one. In Old Boys' first innings, D. Clapcott took the oatting honours vith 23 (retired). Dome (10) was the only other doubxe-figure scorer. In the bowling, O'Brien took three wickets for eight runs, Heaiherwick two for 20, Harper one for 14 and Kirk one for 27. Kirk (32), Gower (18) and Heatherwick (10) were the mainstays sf Otaki's second innings, The bowling* was not impressive, the figures being: Barraud, three for 21; Sciascia, two for 27; Hannan, one for six; Judd, one for two; Gardiner, one for 10; Dorne, none for one. i With 50 runs required for a win, Old Boys set about gettipg them in i a masterly manner. Barraud (13), j Walker (6), Clapcott (13), G. Scia- ) scia (14) and N. Sciascia (7), the' latter two not out, were the run- f getters. Heatherwick took the three , wickets which fell at a cost of 21 runs. College Cricket Both the junior College crieket teams seored wins on Saturday. ; The A team beat Otaki by an innings and eight runs to secure an ' eight-point win, Otaki scored 67 and 74 in their two innings, while College's innings resulted in a score of 149. The B team beat Foxton by 27 runs to secure a fivepoint win. Foxton battefi first and eompiled 47 runs. College replied with 74.
