Medical Bursary Awarded Levin Student

Advice has been received by Raymond Richard Lycette that he has been awarded a bursary to study medicine at the University of Oiago". The son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Lycette, of York Street, Levin, he is a student at Victoria University, Wellington and was Dux of Horowhenua College in 1946. He has foegun his studies for a B.Sc. degree, and is at the same time sitting subjects which will qualify

iiim for his medical intermediate. Mr. Lycette enrolled as a pupil of the Horowhenua College in Febru'ary, 1943, having previously attended the Levin Primary School. Throughout his college career, he was a member of the professional forms. In 1945 he passed the School Certificate Examination and in 1946 was accredited for University Entrance. It was also that year that he hecame Dux of the school, no mean feat for a first year pupil in the sixth form. He continued his college studies throughout 1947, following a specialised course in preparation for his university studies. In the college magazine oathat year he was referred to as a |hard worker who had gained his [duxship' through ability and diligenee. He played himself into the college first fifteen for two successive years, and was. also a prefect.
