Awoke to Find Building Full of Smoke
AUCKLAND, Feb. 28. Finding th.e buiiding . full of smoke and flames when he awoke early this morning, Mr R. E. Burke, who sleeps in High Street where his firm's premises are situajed, was forced to escape by an extension ladder when the brigade arrived. His firm of jewellery manufacturers and electroplaters, Prest Art Ltd., had some valuable equipnient and precioiis metals destroyed by the fire. The buiiding is owned by the Masonic Institute. A room at' the reaT of the ground floo'r oecupied by Prest Art, was extensively damaged and its contents uifnost completely destroyed. A room above, also oecupied by Prest Art, f'ared little better. The premises were insured for £1200. A room "above these two, on • cupied by Early Brothers, dentkl and surgieal importerfe, was also damaged and a quantity of stock destroyed " by fire and vvater. An offiee on the second floor oecupied by Harriman and Lipscombe, general merchants and indent agents, was slightlv damaged by water. A library on the" ground floor owned by J. J. Lenilian had a considerable amount of stock damaged by fire and water. ,
