Allied Trade Unions Turn Against Carpenters

AUCKLAND, Feb. 25. Three unions of workers connected 'with the building industry have .vaterl against supp,ortiiig the Auckland branch of the Carpenters' Union in its dispute with the master bnilders. The Auckland Painters' Union by- an overwhelming majority at a spec.ial meeting tomgbt condemned the branch 's taetics. It is understood the Auckland branch of the North Island Electrical Warkers' Union also decided tonight not to support the carpenters. The Auckland branch of the Plumbers' TTn-ion decided not to take any action jn the dispute. These were three of the allied trades which were asked to support the prouo.aal fOT a stopwork meeting iu Carlaw Park on Wednesdav morning, The suggestipp came from a meeting of the union executives last Mondsfv. After, the meetitig of the Painters' Union the following statement was issued (by the president (Mr. A. J. Caroenter) and the seoretarv (Mr. F. Wi Iijams) : "At a special meeting of the uniop called by circular a precis of the carpenters ' dispute was given bv the secretary of the Auckland branch of the Carpenters' Union (Mr. D. MeEwen) who spoke and answered questions for approximatelv three-quarters of a^n hour. After the retirement of the carpenters' reore«entatives from the. meeting the questiob of the relation; ship of the carpenters' dispute and the policv of the Auckland Painters' Union was fully discussed and the following resolution was moved: 'That this union noi eoncur in the present attitude of the Carpenters' Union and condemns its illegal tactics. ' This motion was carried by 101 to 21 votes,"
