Plans For Girls' Marching Contest Discussed
A combined meeting of the parents' committees of the two local marching girls' teams was held on Thursday night last when arrangements for the display •to take place on the Otaki domain on Saturday, March 5, were reported I to be well in hand. , I The president and secretary of the Horowhenua Marching AssociaI tion, Messrs. W. R. .Jack and A. L. I Dobson respectively, attended, and I outlined . the ..general procedure. These gentlemen also promised- the wholehsarted support of the_ HoroI whenua Association, and estinrated | the number of teams likely to be taking part as near the 20 mark. | Two valuable silver cups have bcen presented for annual competition, by a keen supporter of the I local teams, plus a set of medalS I for the winning team, while further donations include a silv»r cup for the best novice leader, an'd medals .for the tiiree best leaders. Two further sets of medals were donaled at the meeting, and the prize list promises to be a most attractive one, comprising at present three silver cups for senior teams, two cups for junior teams, medals for the three leaders, three sets of medals for senior teams, one set for juniors, while a challenge to the Ca'edonian team, Levin, from the Bandoliers, Otaki, for the Watts Shield will be decided. • The contest. will be the first to be held in Otaki, and as it follows the North Island Championships _ at Palmerston North, and is just before the New Zealand Championships, at Wellington, there seems every reason to believe that it will be an outstanding success and the district will doubtless see some really "crack" teams taking part.
