Matinee Race Meeting At Otaki

. Many and varied were the attractions presented to the large gathering which assembled at the Otaki racecourse on Saturday for the matinee race meeting. The track was hard and fast and the weather fine, though windy. There were events for gallopers, trotters, farm hacks, ponies, and hunters and fair sized fields faced the starter. Time, 50 secs. Putere, the early paeemaker, was just in front of Lady Kin and the Swagger running for the home turn, with Sky Bomb slow away making up ground. The . three leaders entered the straight abreast for Lady Kin and The Swagger to flght it out all the way home with the former winning harrowly but impressively. Putere's saddle slippe'd in the straight, and Sky Bomb ran past him for third. Trotting Handicap, 3.37 class, one mile and a half: Gilda, D. G. Fraser's b.m. 5 yrs., Black GlobeWrakenu, (P. King Teddy held command at the home- turn but once straightened up for the run home, Gilda came very fast down the centre of the track' to win by two lengths, with her driver sitting still. The day ended on a humorous note when a well greased pig was let loose on the track. His freedom was short lived however, flying tackles by two local residents, who both caught up ^ith him at the same time, one at either end, were more than he could contend with, and to the delight of numerous children he was soon back incaptivity.
