Alicia Lesley Mather, a native of Geelong, arrived in Auckland in the Wanganella today Fonnerly tke Begum of Ramsamy and still a Moslem — she embraced the faith in 1946 — Mrs. Mather desires to sell in New Zealand a collection of storiea dealing with her adventures in 13 coun•tries. When shown a cable message from Sydney today stating she , intended marrying a Maori chief, Mrs. Mather staruped her foot and said: "1 repudrate- tliat entirely. It's ridiculous and absurd. " She declared she did no» know a Maori chief' from a bar of soap. Slie desired to request King Koroki to sponsor a big black brother movenient to get Australian aborigines to New Zealand and ask Maori chiefs and members of Parliament each to sponsor the arrival of an aborigine and find eniployment for him. "I aiu trying to do something to relieve the bestial doglike life they lead in Australia, " Mrs. Mather said. She married an Australian born Indian, A. Ramsamy, in 1938 but obtained a divorce last year and reverted to her maiden name of Mather though slie still retained the preiix "Mrs." High Moslem church oiiicials in 1947 eonferred on her the title of . Begum or "Lady, " she explained, but she does uot use that now. She confesses to being in her early thirties.
