Stufl Heifer Found Shot A stud heifer for which the owner, Mr. H. B. Bell, of Waingake, recently refused 100 gns., was found shot last week. The person responsible is believed to have used a .303 rifle. Theatre Renovations Work has commenced on the renovations' for the Regent Theatre, that being done at' present being the removal of the ramp leading to the upst&irs portion and the replacing of tJhis with a moaern new staircase. Whilst this is in progress patrons are askeu to use the stanway leading to the ballroom and from there through the lounge to the theatre. Youthful Spending During the hearing of a case in the Children 's Cpurt in Morrinsville in which tw6 young' boys of 12 years of age were being d^ealt •with in connection with a recent burglaty in local obusiness premises, Mr. W. H. Freeman, S.M., drew attention to the fact that the boys had made purchases of toys and other articles at- prices ranging from £4 to £6 10s with stolen money. He felt that shopkeepers should view such transactions with very young boys uhaccompanied by patents With some suspicion and would be justifled in doing so. Takahe Lent to Museum Because of the interfest in the takahe - (Notornis hochstetteri) among overseas scientists who will attend the Pacific Science Congress in Christchurch next week, the director of the Canterbury •Museum (Mr. R. S. Duff) has borrowed from the Otago Museum the mounted specimen which is the only representative of the bird in any New Zealand museum. The Canterbury Museum will have the takahe for six weeks and has insured it against all risks. The bird will not be on 'exhibitidn until Some time in February when life photographs of the bird and photographs of ifcs habitat can be included in the display.
