With a little luck Deseado niiglit have increased . the total to six in the final event. , The weather was fine and the track fast, Voltaie setting a fresli course record for the mile. The attendance was bett'er than 011 the opening day and the totalisa'tor handled £72,222, compared with the record of £85,993 10 s put through on the sceond day oi' the Centennial. Cup me'eting last year. The total for the meeting was £137,998, as against £160,807 last year, a decrease of £22,809. Two years ago the aggregate for the meeting was, £115,174 10s. #
After the Matarawa Hack Handieap aii inquiry was lield into interference to Gay Gordon (W. J. Broughton), tlus being held to be caused by Alana, ridden by W. Eales. The comiliittee attributed this to the rider's laek ot experienee and laek of employment by his employer, Iv. Webster. They considered that he should be given a severe eaution and warned to be more careful, and that he should receive inore careful tuition in race riding. The fall of Baksodn in the Harrison llack Handieap was held to be caused by his clipping the heeis of a horse 111 front. His rider, E. Dulieu, escaped with a bad shaking. In the Earle Stakes Embrolita broke a sesamoid bone near the half-mile and caused Shiraz to drop right baclc. Embrolita was pulled up in the straight but managed to lirnp back to the scraping' sheds. After the Earle Stakes G. R. Tattersall, who rode the winner, Imperial, was warned not to change his course so quickly as to threaten interference to another horse. Voltaie 's Fine Effort Voltaie repeated his last-year success in the Jackson Stakes, with King's Ransom keeping the crack colt Tauloch out of a plaee. First out from the stalls were Voltaie, King's Ransoin and Da Vinci, but on the turn running for the six furlongs Tauloch ran up very fast to head the field. He was two lfengths ahead of Voltaie, Da Vinci and Kiiig's Ransoin at the five furlongs, and at the halfmile he was followed by Voltaie and lving's Ransom. Thus they turned for honie, with Voltaie almost 011 terms with Tauloch, and King's Ransom niaking a bid on the outside. Voltaie drew level at tlie distance and then went on to win by a sliort neck from King's Ransom, with Tauloch a similar' distance back, third. There was a gap of several mgths back to Aggravatipn and Da Vinci. . Narrow Win Slv Ferry scored a narro'w win ovcr tlie eaeh-way favourite, Telegram, in the Harrison Hack Handieap, in whieh the Awapuni-trained Baksoon lost Tiis rider in the first' furlonga Telegram and Silver Line led past the stands, with Reveller, Fealty, Sheer, Kentucky Flight, Raiding, Sly Ferry and Hormond following in close* order. Then Fealty ran to the front running into the back streteh, but Telegram ancl Raiding had cliarge at the iialf-mue from Fealty, Silver Line, Sly. Ferry and Hormond. Sly Ferry moved up quickly rounding the turn to fight it out witli Telegram all the way up the stratght aiul get the verdict by a nose. Two lengths back was Hormond, with Raiding fourth, next to finish being Kentucky Flight, Raiding ancl Sea Shanty. Favourite '"ails Tlie hot favourite, Gay Gordon, failed to finish in tlie first four in tlie Matarawa Hack Handieap, wliich was won by the second favourite, BeJla Mia. Te Heilui and Broielink missed the jump-out and Gay Gordon showed out from Bella Mia, Earlv Bird, Alana, Arcadia and Nuptial. Then Alana dashed into the lead and piloted Bena Mia, Early Bird, Gay Gordon and Step Far past the half-mile. Alana was first into the straight from Early Bird, Bella Mia and Gay Gordon, the last-named trying to get a run 011 the raiJs. Ovcr the final furlong Bella Mia did best to beat Master Fox by half a length, witli Early Bird half a head away, third. Arcadia was a elose fourth, ahead of Broielink, Gay Gordon and Xuptial. ' Big Dividend Iving of Quiz sprang a surprise in the Oanipbell Handieap, returning a dividend of nearly a score when he defeated the rather unlucky Deseado and tlie pacemaking Wild Xote. Demure, Deseado and Pitoitoi missed the jump-out, and at the end of a furlong Wild Xote and Iving of Quiz'vrere clear of Deseado (who had made up leewav quickly), Travel King, Square Dink, Belle Anita and The Pagan. \v iicl Xote and King of Quiz raeed past the three furlongs five lengths ahead of Deseado, Travel King, Square Dink, The Missioner and The Pagan, aua Wild Note was in front 011 tlie home turn. However, King of Quiz took him on at the distance and Deseado was finishing fast wide out. Iving of Quiz soon had Wild Xote's measure but Iiatl to be ridden out to hold olf Deseado by a neck, with Wild Note half a lengtli away. The Pagan just got fourth place from Dem-ure, with Travel King, The Missioner and Square Dink next.
