Carnival Funds Pass £1500 Mark

The Sports Queen has again established a handy lead as a result of the barometer change this week, and now leads by 6548 votes frdm the Citizens' Queen. The two-lead-ing positions are held by'the same candidates as last week, but in the rev^rse order, with the other- three in almost the same positions they held last week. The total pay in to date rapresents over £1530, and with over two weeks to run there are many forecasts as to the likely total. The more optimistic set the flgure at £2500. It certainly seems at this juncture that there should be no difficulty in reaching £2000. The figures at present read as follows, last week's figures being given in parentheses: — Sports, 31,064 (21,872) ; Citizens, 24,606 (22,614) ; v Maori, 24,572" (21,360); Farmers, 21,652 (18,060); Textiles.i 20,666 (19,914).
