Tiie name of Bailinger, famous ini k.evv Zealand rifie shooting history, was given further iustre by a double rangc possible; in the Canterbury match of 300 and- 500 yards at Trentham today when the national championships were continued. This w'as accomplished by L. R. Bailinger, a 23-year-old New Plyuiouth riilenian, a distant relativ.e of A. Bailinger who won the championship belt outright and then presented it fdt annual competitions. .This is 1. R. Bailinger 's iirst national championship iiieeting. W. Oakley (Christchurch) was unLucky in not equailmg Bailinger 's achievement. Following the possible at 500 yards, he ran on a string of nine bulls at 300 yards but his last shot was a four. J. W. Johnson (Featherston), a leading rifleman over recent years who also scored the possible at 50*0 yards, dropped oue point with his seventh sfhot at 300 yards to linish with 99 for the match. The leading Australian, S. Kanaar, j i'ollowed his 19 at 500 yards with 19 at 500, dropping one point with his last shot. The Otago match provided annost unusuul rosult in that there were ties for first prize with possibles whiie in the A grade four competitors tied with 19 scored in the same manner, each dropping one point with his fourth shot.. On account of the rifle of C. Curmack (Australia) failing to pass the trigger test, the G grade prize list of the Canterbury Alatch, whieh he head•d, was lield up pending an executive decision.
