. Seeking permission to use the Regeflt social hall from Maji 23 tintil May 27 for the staging 6f its arts and crafts exhibition, a letter was received from the Southerh wellington Federatidh df- . N/Z; Women's Institutes at MOhday night's meeting of the Levin Borough Council. Permission was granted. The use of the hall on Mondays fof 'the teaching of dandihg was' granted MisS Ireng OliVef, frorri whom an applidation was forthcoming. Another "applicant, Miss M. Pescini, was granted the use of the council's bandroom for the holding >of elocutionary lessons all day on Saturdays and on Friday evenings from 5 -to 8 p.m. Permission to coridtidt a Street march through Oxford Street was granted the Wellington-Hawke's Bay Pipe Band Cohtest. Cdiiihiittee, it being state'd* by the Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, that the march scheduled for Satufday *iriOrfiihg wOuld be supervised by the pdiic'e and transport ofiicials. On t-he suggestion of the bdrotigh overse'ef,Mr. E. Lycette, it was decided that,. as the event was attracting many persons td the towh, suitable council bunting should be displaye'd for the occasion. As the result of a question raised by Cr. W. Telford, the tfaffle' Offlcer will be ihstfueteh by the cOUnPii to ensure the observance of - the time limit imposed on buses .using the Bath Street bus stop. A request by the' CombiiiPd Seamen's Institutes Committee for a street day on a date5 suitable to the council was declined. It Was stated that . the street 'day sc'hedule for 1949 had already buen c'pmpiled, and that the organisation in ques/tioh had beeii granted a day last year and had fdite'd td iriake Usd of it. It was dec'i'ded to advise the organisation that it should make application in November. The latest developments regarding the proposed san-atorium site in Levin were the subject of a discussion in corriiiiittefe. A ptsition arising out of the Regent Theatre renovatioris ahd a repor't by the abattoir committee on certain difficulties at the aba-tto'if Were also discussed in committee.
