Film Censorship to Be Inquired Into
DUNEDIN, Feb. 7. An investigation of tbe metbod of censoring fiims in the Dominion is to be made by the New Zealand Film Institute. Tbis was decided at the' annual conference of the council of tbe institute wbicb was beld in Dunedin during tbe weekend. After discussing tbe subject of censorship, tbe council decided that tbe working committee be .authorised, after -making a full investigation, to - prepare for tbe approval of affiliated societies a seheme to rectify any weaknesses revealed in tbe existing machinery of film censorship. The cbairman of tbe working committee, Mr J. D. O'Sbea, of Wellington, reported that 22 film societies witb a total membership' of approximately 2000 were now assoeiated witb .the film institute, and others were being formed. Mr J. C. Reid, of Auckland," was elected president of the next conference, wbicb will be beld at Auckland in 1950.
