Personal Local friends of Mr. -Harold Hook, who is on his way to New Zealand from South Africa, will be interested to learn of the engagement of his daughter, Dawn, to Bryan Goodman, of South Africa. Although Miss Hook left New Zealand as a child, she visited the Dominion just over two years ago. Bike Story Concludes It was little known that the "bike story" published last evening woui'd take the form of a aerial. However, the episode concluded over the weekend, when both parties regained1 possession of their correct bicycles, one t'hrough the medium of the police station. Lady Bowlers Successful . Members of the Shannon! Ladies' Bowling Club were successful at the recent * Wellington Centre's open jpairs tournament. Mesdames Tricker and Laing, who were entered for the tournament, on the first day won their three matches, thus eliminating previous title hol'ders. On the second day the locaj women won one out of the three matches •and qualified for post-section play. On the final day, under adverse weather conditions, Shannon was defeated by a narrow margin. Swimming Popular The very warm weather over the weekend attracted many local resi'dents to the seaside. Neighbouring beaches were most popular, while several were content to spend the day on the banks and in the Manawatu River. On Sunday upwards of 50 were at various points along t'he river cooling off. Rain Needed By Farmers Although some farmers are still engaged in harvesting, the majority are anxiously watching the skies for a sign of rain. In many places pastures are looking very dry and those relying on tanks for their household water report that the supply is very low.
