Sensationally beaten by the Litngow typist, Marjorie Jackson, aged 17, in a" 100 nietres invitation race at ihe Svdney Sports Ground, Mrs. Faitny Blankers-lvoen recovered 19 spreadeaglc the field in the State 80 metres women's hurdies championsliip. She -won it by twelve yards in 11.4 seconds wliich %cas only a fifth of a second outside the world record held by her and Maureen Garduer, of Britain. This and a dis tance 'of 34ft lOins, gained by hei in the siiot put event, constitute new Australian records. . The 100 nietres race was run in a cross wind. Mrs. Blankcrs-Koen start / edk,with, bqth knees heavily scarred and one bandaged as the result of a t'all in Perth. Marjorie Jackson won the fcvenf ■ in 11.8 seconds which is seven-tenths better than the State (record and one ' -teenth. better' than that recorded bj Mrs. Blankers-Koen when she won the Olyuipic sprint final at Wembley. Marjorie Jackson went on to win a •heat and final of the junior 100 yards and was iast runner for the two winning Lithgow teains in the 880 relaj and junior 300 yards relay. Before she started in the hurdle event, Mrs. Blankers-Koen tried the in jured leg over a hurdle but waved mediea! assistance away. She gave % faultless exhibiton of hurdling and speed between junips. Later at her first attempt in the sliot put she broke the Australian record by 14 inches. At the next put she added 44 inches.
