Gala Day at Racecourse
Calurday next, February 12, promises.to be:a. most interesting day a.or Otaki t&n-d -.'district. .. residents, .a matinee race. nieeting and a Maori pkgearit being the main attractions at a gala day to be heid on the racecourse in p,id of the Maori Queeri. Nominations for, galloping and trotting evehts were t'aken on Thursday and a very satisfactory l'esponse has- been forthcoming from owners and trainers. Tne entries for the open six furlongs, the maiden half mile and the two trotting events have each drawn 10 entrants. Two pony races, of three and four furlongs, and a six furlong gallop for farm hacks, are other events to be staged for which entries will be taken on the day. Four jumping contests, two for ponies and two jfor hunters, are also on the pro- ! gramme. i The Maori pageant.. promises to isurpass anythjng seen in the dis- . trict for many years.
