Successful Talents Quest Finals
The Ciyic Theatre was fihed to capacity on Wednesday night when the winners of the various sections in the amateur talents quest appeared for the final judging. A high standard of entertainment was provided and the publie were not s-OW in recording their a-ppre-ciation, each performer heing roundly applau'ded. First to appear in the A class was Mr„ J. Raika, who sang "Icia." He was accompanied by Mr. »T. Henry. Next came.Mr. Bob Hakaraia, whose vocal number was "My Rosary," Miss W. Tahiwi being the accompanist. Mr. S. Ransfield followed, and sang "You* Never Know,'' with guitar accompaniment. Miss Rose Hakaraia, with two string accompanists, sang "My Happiness," to conclude the A class performers. The Murray Sisters opened the B class with "A Tardy Scholar," and they were accompanied by their two brothers. ' Master Barry Gray sang "One Alone," accompanied by his mother Mrs. Geo. Gray. Master Kevin Gower, also accompanied by his mother, Mrs. H. Gower, sang "To A Miniature." An apology was tendered on behalf of the remaining flnalist' in the B class, Miss D. Ballantyne, of Christchurch.
The Murray Quartette sang "Down In Jungletown" to open the C class. Tne following number was a duet, "Old Shep," by Miss and i Master Murray. Miss'es M. Wrliams |and R. Rikihana sang, with string " : accompaniment, "I Get Wild," and • ! the concluding artist was Miss - Rose Egdeil in a recitation, "Sam's Medal." - j Voting papers were collected during the interval and members of the queen committees and executive had a busy time countI ing them. J •I The Mayor, Mr. C. F. Atmore, |presented tne trophies won, the voting having resulted as , folllows: — "[ A class: Mr. Bob Hakaraia 1, Miss IRose Hakaraia 2, Mr. S. Ransfield j 3, Mr. J. Raika 4. B class: Murray Sisters 1, Kevin Gower 2, Barry Gray 3. C c'ass: Miss Rose Egdell 1, Murray Brother and Sister 2, Murray Quartette 3, Misses Williams and Rikihana 4. Mr. Atmore thanked the performers who had volunteered their assistance and made special mention of the work done by the organiser, Mr. W. Nicholls, who was prevented. from being present • on the final night, being "mdispos- | ed, and the compere, Mr. H. Jack- - ! son. Mr. W. Connor had also given valuable assistance. . .
