Swimming Club Members Get Down To Serious Training At Baths

A good number of .members were at the baths for training last Wednesday, but unfortunatelv a light drizzle interrupted the seniors, the juniors, however, getting through a fair amount of work. A number oi' times were recorded and in the majoritv of cases showed an improvement.
i Two main weaknesses which cou d be aliminated with practice are in starting and turning. There a:,e a;so a number who are not yet physically fit. For instance a swimmer wishing to '§wim 100 yards should do from 200 to 800 yards every day, then 100 yards with a ooard, kieking only, and finishing with 50 yards using the arms only. Much practice on starting and turning is a!so necessary. Hints on training will be given in these- noies--at a later date. I Club members who have caught my eye as having improved either in style, speed, stroke, kicks or turns, are Misses McClune, Turner, Hudson, Prendeville, Quinn an'd Todd and Messrs. R. Routley, Rikihana, Spooner, Learmonth, Jacobs and D. Batten. -These are doin'g well but can sall improve. The centre will hold its meeting this week, when carnival dates will be a'lccatcd so it is essential that club nights be attended for train-
. ing'and the latest "gen." j The club hopes that the rather ' poor attendance at learners' lessons last Saturday was caused by { the show. Those who did attend are 'doing quite well. The class is | held on Saturday mornings between J i 9 and 10 a.m. For further particu- 1 ! lars ring the club secretary, Miss :P. Wills, or the club captain, Mr. Alec Fletcher.
