Record First Day School Admissions
The first day of the Levin Primary School's new year saw the admission of 52tfnew pupils, which the headmaster, ' Mr. H. F. McClune, considers is a record for a first day, as admissions at the beginning of -a, year are usualiy carried over. quite a few days. Fifty pupils from last year's Form II left and entered secondary school. Mr. McClune estimated that 95 per eent. of txiose who left went on to further their education. A small percentage who were not of age to leave school permanently, but had reached the highest ciass, returned again this year rather than pursue their studies further. Their intention is to start work when they attain school leaving age. This procedure, however, is not encouraged, the educational authorities preferring that pupils complete their time at a secondary school. The total roll at the school yesterday was 672." The classes were quite crowded and Mr. McClune said that he was anxiously awaiting the erection of the two temporary class' rooms promised the school committee. Mr. McClune said that it was probable that the Wellington Education Board would this year send a student specialist in swimming tuition. He was very anxious that all his pupils learnt to swim. The school ' grounds are looking very neat and the playground is -in the process of being re-sealed, which will be a considerable improvement. .
