WELLINGTON, Feb. 2. The Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones, stated today that he had received the report of the Inspector of Aecidents, Air Department, into the accident to the de Havilland 82 (Tiger Moth) aireraft ZK — AQN which oce'urred near Highbank, Canterbury, on January 16, in which the pilot, Mr. C. Paritu, was lcilled and a passenger, Mr. Rr-B\irrowsv fatallv injured. The report indicates that there can be no doubt of the pilot 's intention to engage in low flying. It was not a case of f ailing to attain sufficient height after the t&kqoff to avoid obstructions. In the opiuion of the Inspector of Acoidents, the accident was the reshlt of the aircraft striking a tree whilst flying in coriditions of good visibilitv. This must be attributed to carelessness on the part. of the pilot who," witliiri a f eW minutes , of taking-off, voluntarily descended several hundred feet and engaged in . pianoeuvres which were dangeroua at the low altitude at which they were earried out.
